Mr Ong Kok Choong, Graduated from Nat’l University of S’pore
Kok Choong’s passion in IT was ignited during his formative years in Ahmad Ibrahim Secondary School where he represented the school in numerous Q-Basic and Robotics competitions. He was also a core member of the team that designed the first school website in 1996. His passion continued to grow during his college years and he became the computer club president in Yishun Junior College. In this leadership role, he was responsible for organising IT lessons and competitions for his peers.
During the army years, Kok Choong was trained as a signal specialist and became deeply involved in using and deploying high tech telecommunication systems. Due to his zeal and operational knowledge of the system, he was subsequently attached to the Defense Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) to work on a telecommunication network management project. During this period, Kok Choong interest in telecommunication grew and he began to dream of creating futuristic mobile communication system.
After army, Kok Choong went on to pursue a bachelor degree in computer engineering in the National University of Singapore (NUS). During his university years, his zeal for futuristic mobile system led to participate and win in several competitions; namely Singapore Tan Kah Kee Young Inventors Award 2005 (Merit Award), Singapore NETS MENSA Innovator Series 2005 (First Runner-up), 2005 International University Student Creativity-in-Action Contest, Taiwan (Excellent Award) and NUS INTRO award at Startup @ Singapore 2005.
Looking for further opportunities to demonstrate the potential of tomorrow’s mobile communication systems, Kok Choong and several of his like-minded friends founded ByteSquare Technology Pte Ltd in October 2004. ByteSquare was founded to begin exploratory work on a patented mobile technology from NUS and has been subsequently invested by NUS Venture Support. Currently, ByteSquare provides mobile surveillance and communication software to clients in Singapore and Indonesia.
Despite his busy schedules, Kok Choong’s passion in IT leads him to help several fellow NUS startup in their respective IT projects. As a technology consultant, he has successfully advised on and delivered projects for Justcomz International Pte Ltd and Fixics Solution Pte Ltd. As a part of his ongoing drive to promote IT and entrepreneurship in NUS, he has been active in mentoring his juniors in NUS on various IT projects and competitions. Teams that he mentored have successfully gone on to win several awards in business plan and mobile technologies competitions in Singapore.
Despite his busy schedules, Kok Choong’s passion in IT has led him to help several fellow NUS startup in their respective IT projects.
