Mr Sangar s/o Annadorai, Graduated from Ngee Ann Polytechnic

Sangar, in the eyes of his many lecturers and fellow friends, has been an exemplary IT role model and inspiring youth. He has clearly demonstrated his passion and pursuit in IT as well as demonstrated leadership and also importantly, a heart for his friends and the community.

Sangar’s passion for technology and innovation dates back to secondary school where he had the opportunities to represent the school in technology competitions. He developed two software systems – a game-based learning software that won the Team Effort Award in the National Software Competition and a Science teaching and assessment software which was then showcased at the Science Centre.

His interest and passion to develop further in IT spurred him to pursue a Diploma in Information Technology at Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s School of InfoComm Technology. Sangar has always been appreciative to the School and his lecturers for the nurturing and coaching which has helped bring out the best in him.

Within the first year of studies, Sangar joined the team of Senior Buddies in the School, assisting lecturers to help the academically-less-inclined fellow students in the School. In his second year, he was nominated by his fellow students as the President of the eGarage Club, the IT Technology Incubation Club of the School. He led the Committee in the planning and organising of various IT technology events, seminars, talks and competitions for fellow students, secondary school IT teachers and students as well as for the industry. He also personally took up the presidency of the Photography and Videography SIG of the eGarage Club, assisting in the many photography responsibilities in the School. Sangar was also active in the SCS as a committee member of the SCS Student Chapter.

Sangar developed a keen interest in Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology and its virgin application in the lifestyle and hospitality management field as he actively helped the School set up its RFID Hospitality Management Systems (RHyMeS) Centre. Together with another buddy, as part of his final year project, Sangar developed a fully-operational Person-Identification and Greeting System leveraging on RFID for the RHyMeS partner - Symbol Technologies which was then deployed live in the company’s product showcase. This same application also won them the national Java Jive Technopreneur Challenge 2006 Award.

Sangar’s interest in RFID continued after he graduated. While awaiting for his NS enlistment, Sangar stayed on to work at the RHyMeS Centre and developed a Self-service Kiosk that uses RFID to empower the hotel’s esteemed loyal guests to do hassle-free check-in and check-out. The developed system will be deployed live in the Millennium & Copthorne Hotel by 2007.

Sangar has been an inspirational model to his fellow friends and juniors, winning several awards – the Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s Outstanding Academic Award and Student Excellence Award, the NorthWest CDC Outstanding All-Rounders Student Award, SINDA’s Academic Excellence Award and the Singapore Indian Education Trust Achievement Awards. He also selflessly coached his junior to achieving the World Champion in the Microsoft Academic Skills Challenge 2006.

A firm believer in giving back to society, Sangar has continued to serve as Advisor to the CyberAce Club at Boon Lay Secondary School where he was formerly Chairman to the Club. He has actively promoted the awareness and adoption of IT amongst the secondary school students. Sangar has also volunteered his Saturdays at the National Library Board, Pioneer CC and the Spastic Children’s Association of Singapore.

Despite his academic and community commitments, Sangar has managed his time well and was also able to try his hands on entrepreneurship by availing himself as a freelancer providing companies with networking infrastructure set-up and web solutions. At the same time, he has sharpened his IT skills and knowledge.
