Mr Wee Tew Lim


Tew Lim started his IT career with IBM in 1966, after graduating from the then University of Singapore. He subsequently worked for other organisations, including POSB and NETS.

He is a pioneer of the electronic retail payments industry, having led the implementation of the first nationwide ATM network at POSB; being part of a team that introduced the EFTPOS network in Singapore; and subsequently led teams in implementing the Cashcard, Internet credit/debit transactions/kiosks and other e-commerce projects.

Tew Lim was also involved in several National level e-commerce, security and standards projects. He was a Director of the then National Computer Board (NCB) and also a committee member of the Singapore IT Federation (SITF).

Tew Lim was one of the original members of the Singapore Computer Society (SCS) when it was founded in 1967. He was elected to the Executive Council in 1972 and served as its President from 1984 to 1990.

Among the many initiatives during his term was the setting up of the permanent secretariat, which laid the foundation for all our activities today. He also launched the Special Interest Groups and Professional Examinations tie-up with the British Computer Society.

Tew Lim served as President of the former South East Asia Computer Confederation (SEARCC) from 1988 to 1990. Besides SCS, he was the Founder/President of Share/Guide Singapore, a IBM user group.

Besides his work and contributions to the IT profession, Tew Lim was also active in community work. He served in various capacities in the grassroot organisations and was awarded the Public Service Medal (PBM) in 1996 by the government.

Tew Lim is a strong believer in education. He served for many years on a School Advisory Committee and the Ngee Ann Polytechnic Council. In addition, he was Chairman, Technical Committee of the Skills Development Fund for over 15 years. Tew Lim still serves as Deputy Chairman of the Ngee Ann Polytechnic Council, as well as Chairman of its Advisory Committee for the School of ICT.

Nowadays, besides playing golf, Tew Lim spends his time helping several start-ups and at SPEAR Consultancy Pte Ltd, a company he formed with a few schoolmates.
