Mr Wilson Tan
Wilson Tan formerly served as President of Mercury Interactive for Asia Pacific/Japan and was responsible for its overall growth, management and business operations.
Mr Tan has been involved in the Information Technology industry for over twenty-five years, and has held senior management positions at Software AG, Informix, Apple, Xerox and Transmarco Data Systems.
Mr Tan’s volunteerism for the Singapore IT scene dates back to the beginning of the 1990’s when he chaired the Singapore Informatics event. Over the years, this event evolved into COMDEX ASIA when he successfully invited the owners of the COMDEX event in the US to be a partner in the regional ICT arena starting in 1995. These events became one of COMDEX’s most successful exhibition and conferences outside of the Americas.
Mr Tan is currently the President of the Asian-Oceanian Computer Industry Organization (ASOCIO), which is a regional grouping of IT associations. Prior to this appointment he served as its Vice President from 1998 in various capacities. Currently ASOCIO represents 25 member associations throughout the Asia Oceania area and has a collective membership of more than 10,000 organizations representing approximately 80% of the ICT market in the region.
He was also the Immediate Past Chairman of the IT Standards Committee (ITSC) having served two terms as Chairman between 1998 and 2004.
In 2001, PSB Singapore conferred Mr Tan with the “Distinguished Award” in recognition of his services and contributions to the Singapore National Standardization Program in 2001. He continues his involvement in Singapore standards activities by serving on the Standards Advisory Board of SPRING.
He was a two terms past Chairman of the Singapore Information Technology Federation (SITF) and was also a board member of the National Computer Board (NCB) and the Infocomm Development Authority (IDA).
Mr Tan was also a member of the Services Sub-Committee of the Economic Review Committee (ERC-2001/2) in Singapore where he chaired the ICT Working Group. This culminated with the submission of the report: “The Living Digital Hub”, which was received and endorsed by the ERC in September 2002. The report underscores the need to develop Singapore into a Digital Living Lab with Creative Clusters to test-bed and deploy innovating solutions and technologies; and improve our long term viability and competitiveness in the ICT space.
Mr Tan’s other current appointments include sitting on the advisory board of various education institutions including the Institute of Systems Science (ISS), Singapore Polytechnic School of ICT, and the School of Computer Engineering at Nanyang Technology University (NTU).
Mr Tan has also been involved in various community projects including serving on the Board of BizLink Singapore, a non-profit volunteer organization that assesses, trains and places clients with various forms of disabilities in a sheltered workshop or in open employment. He was also involved in various community events involving the support of the residents at St. Luke’s Hospital and the Health Workers at Tan Tock Seng Hospital during the SARS episode in 2003.
Mr Tan holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the National University of Singapore and a graduate diploma in Marketing Management from the Singapore Institute of Marketing and the Chartered Institute of Marketing (IMUK). He also attended the Executive Management Program at INSEAD, France.
