Unity is the creator of the world's most widely used real-time 3D development platform, giving developers around the world the tools to create rich, interactive 2D, 3D, VR, and AR experiences. Our 1,000 person development team keeps Unity at the bleeding-edge of technology by working alongside partners such as Google, Facebook, Oculus, and Microsoft to ensure optimized support for 25 of the latest platforms from iOS and Magic Leap, to Xbox One, Gear VR and more.
Games and experiences made with Unity reach ~3 billion devices worldwide and were installed 29 billion times in the last 12 months. Unity is powering the real-time revolution, expanding beyond games and breaking into industries including automotive, film, architecture, engineering, construction and more.
In addition to giving creators the tools to build their dreams, we also help them monetize. Our ads platform gives developers everything needed to engage and retain players, and drive the highest possible Lifetime Value (LTV). We provide developers with the tools to acquire highly engaged users, while giving them the scale and creative freedom to achieve stellar results.
Since the company's inception in 2004, Unity has been committed to empowering users and providing them with the tools to turn their dreams into a reality. In 2018 we made one of our biggest announcements - the shift from object-oriented design to data-oriented design. This new philosophy requires a new programming language called the Entity Component System (ECS), derived from C# (which Unity developers already use), to create a high-performance multi-threaded system that makes it possible to take advantage of multi-core processors without the heavy programming headache.
Our Values & Working Culture
Holistic onboarding: Unity prides itself on a holistic onboarding program, which would enable new hires to assimilate into the Unity working culture as smoothly and quickly as possible. This process starts before an employee's first day! Before their 1st day, new hires are given a Welcome Kit, Information Pack (on the latest information/news/videos, etc. on Unity), an onboarding schedule for the 1st week, and a buddy. We know that being a new employee can be daunting, so having clarity and a buddy outside of the team helps our new employees understand how to navigate their way around the different departments as well as the office. New hires are also given a guide on what to expect in their 30, 60, and 90 days in Unity. This will help them prepare for the journey forward, enable their success, and contribute towards Unity's goals.
Unity's culture is rooted in transparency: It's a value that allows employees to thrive in their roles and, in turn, increases overall company success. Unity employees regularly hear from C-suite executives in All Hands and Town Hall meetings hosted in offices around the world on matters ranging from Unity's financial health to the latest strategic thinking about its core platform.
Open communication channels: We have many channels for our employees to gather together - from the formal to the informal. Formal channels include monthly global all hands meetings where business updates are shared by our CEO and other global leaders. We also have regional townhalls hosted by the VP Asia, Finance, HR along with any other company updates. Employees are encouraged to ask questions and clarify at townhalls. HR also organizes skip levels at least 3 times a year so that people who work at Unity can comfortably voice any concerns without the presence of their direct managers. HR also has an open door policy where people can provide feedback at any time.
Everyone is a leader: Unity employees take the company values very seriously, which center around inclusivity and leading by design. To help disseminate and live these values, Unity has rolled out its leadership training program to all employees as of January 2019. This means all employees, regardless of job function, department, or level have the opportunity to learn, and embrace, the same leadership skills as all Unity executives. Employees learn how to refine skills like active listening, building relationships, driving for alignment, and fierce feedback. The goal is to ensure that everyone feels empowered to be a leader within the company, particularly as we grow.
Workplace Experience Team: Our Workplace Experience team is key to maintaining a healthy and conducive work environment. The Workplace Experience team provides many opportunities for different teams to mingle with one another and generally ensure that Unity is a happy and pleasant place for employees to spend their time. We have once-a-week lunch, once-a-week breakfast, and birthday celebrations which where Unity employees meet in the pantry for an informal conversation. We believe the best communication and collaborations happen organically, so we provide a well-stocked pantry for these conversations to happen.
The importance of aesthetic space: We believe that a conducive environment helps builds an inclusive culture and consciously build strong employee relations. This is further substantiated by our office design and open floor concept where directors, managers and employees are seated next to one and other. To facilitate discussions, we have ample breakaway rooms and open spaces for employees.
