After completing her Honours Year at NUS, Janet joined IBM and has been an IBMer for a large part of her 35 years in the industry. In her current role as Vice-President of Industry Solutions Systems of Engagement Smarter Cities, IBM Asia Pacific, covering Australia, New Zealand, India, ASEAN and Korea, she is responsible for helping governments and organisations to improve, integrate and add intelligence to systems.

Janet worked closely with the government to drive the growth of the IT industry when the Singapore Government recognised the urgent need to embark on a transformation journey from an industrial economy to a knowledge economy. Janet was the pioneer team together with ISS to start the Singapore Government computerisation program and the first woman to be the Chairman of ISS Board of Management. She also personally taught classes to civil servants on computerisation.

During her early career, she worked on Singapore TradeNet project and partnered with Singapore Government to pilot IT outsourcing initiatives in the civil service. To help local businesses and companies, she worked with Singapore Smarter Cities solution providers and linked them with foreign governments to create more business opportunities. She also chairs the Digitalisation Issues Committee under the Singapore Business Federation where she collaborates with business leaders on transforming the digital world to ensure that businesses remain relevant.

While working in China for Lenovo and IBM China, she served on the board of external organisations including the Singapore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, SingCham in China as Vice-Chair and as a Trustee on the Board of the International School of Beijing ISB. She organised network events for Singaporean and Chinese business leaders to drive mutually beneficial business opportunities.

Beyond her work, Janet serves on various committees in the community. When Janet came on to the Council of the Singapore Computer Society, she designed and launched the inaugural IT Leader Awards. This signature event for IT professionals in Singapore is now into its 22nd year. As an SCS Council member, she also developed the framework for the launch of the Project Management Certification. As the President of the International Women Forum, iWF, she also mentors young aspiring women leaders to develop their full potential and connect them to global leaders.
